OVERVIEW
Take2 Technologies embarked on a comprehensive project to revitalise NextGenU.org, an e-learning platform, by upgrading it’s Moodle infrastructure, consolidating its digital assets, and migrating to cloud-based hosting. The project aimed to enhance the user experience, streamline content management, and ensure scalability for future growth.
TECHNOLOGIES USED
PHP7
Utilised for its powerful server-side scripting, PHP7 enabled us to efficiently handle dynamic web pages and complex server-side tasks, crucial for a seamless user experience.
MySQL
Employed as our database solution, MySQL provided the robustness needed for high-
performance data operations, essential for managing the extensive datasets associated
with the e-learning platform.
Linux Server
Selected for its reliable and secure hosting capabilities, Linux Servers ensured optimal
performance and scalability under the platform’s increasing demands.
Moodle™ Framework
Central to our project, the Moodle™ framework was adapted to create a versatile and engaging learning environment. It facilitated the integration of innovative teaching tools and scalable learning resources, supporting an adaptive and user-focused educational experience.
CHALLENGE
NexGenU.org faced several challenges that hindered its operational efficiency and user engagement
- An outdated Moodle platform that limited functionality and user experience.
- Data dispersed across two separate websites, leading to inconsistencies and management challenges.
- Hosting on a dedicated server that constrained scalability and performance.
- A need for a modernised website interface to improve navigation and learner engagement.
SOLUTION
Take2 Technologies devised a strategic plan to address these challenges without disrupting the existing user base or course content:
Moodle Upgrade
Seamlessly upgraded NextGenU.org to the latest version of Moodle, ensuring no loss of user or course data during the transition.
Website Redesign
Introduced a new theme to revitalise the website’s appearance, making it more inviting and user-friendly.
Cloud Migration
Transitioned from a dedicated server to Amazon AWS cloud hosting to enhance scalability, performance, and reliability.
Technical Support:
Implemented ongoing on-site technical support to address daily operational issues promptly and efficiently.
User Support
Established a support system for users experiencing access issues or having course-related queries, ensuring a smooth learning experience.
Course Polishing
Reviewed and updated all courses according to current e-learning standards, improving the overall quality and engagement of the learning content.
Data Consolidation
Successfully merged course data from secondary website into the primary platform, maintaining data integrity and coherence.
RESULTS
Take2 Technologies holistic approach to upgrading and consolidating NextGenU.org’s e-learning platform not only resolved existing operational challenges but also set the stage for sustainable future growth. The project resulted in significant improvements
- A modern, responsive website that significantly enhanced the learning experience for users.
- Improved scalability and performance through cloud-based hosting, ensuring NextGenU.org can accommodate growth without compromising on speed or availability.
- A unified platform that simplified content management and eliminated redundancies, leading to more efficient operations.
